Double Wires 2

Double Wires 2, a sequel to the original Double Wires, is an addictive little browser game that provides a new spin on the tried and tested endless runner genre. Like Spiderman meets Canalbalt, Double Wires 2 sees you swinging through an endless cave using the titular wires to get as far as you can.

The controls are simple, using just the left mouse button to fire your wire into the cave’s ceiling. This creates enough momentum to fling your character forward allowing you move through the cave before firing your next wire to progress further, and so on. The game makes use of some crazy ragdoll physics so your poor character will be catapulted around the cave, and to his death unless you can master the games unforgiving learning curve. Luckily this is a perfect example of the “just one more go” phenomenon and it’s easy to waste 15 minutes or more trying to beat your previous score without realizing where the time has gone.

You need to think fast when playing Double Wires 2 because not only does the level scroll slowly along, but also your wires do not stick to the cave indefinitely, meaning idleness will not be rewarded. Likewise the integrity of the cave walls is not consistent, and there will be areas with only small surfaces you can cling to. Consequently it is always necessary to be one stop ahead, planning where you need to get to next. A good tip is to make every click count, moving steadily and systematically through the cave whilst staying as calm as possible.

To call the games visuals simplistic is an understatement, but this means you can concentrate fully on the gameplay without flashy distractions. It’s really worth giving this game a go, it’s a perfect lunchtime time sink.
